How to install Oracle Java JDK/JRE 7/8/9 on Ubuntu

Install Oracle Java JDK 7/8/9 on Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04

  • During the install, the installer will prompt you to accept the Oracle license before completing the installation

Oracle Java JDK 7

# uninstall existing version
sudo apt-get purge openjdk*

# Add Repository
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

#update and install
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer
java -version

# Set Environment Variable
sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-set-default

Oracle Java JDK 8

# uninstall existing version
sudo apt-get purge openjdk*

# Add Repository
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

#update and install
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
java -version

# Set Environment Variable
sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-set-default

Oracle Java JDK 9

# uninstall existing version
sudo apt-get purge openjdk*

# Add Repository
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

#update and install
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install oracle-java9-installer
java -version

# Set Environment Variable
sudo apt-get install oracle-java9-set-default
